Try a sample class on us! These sample activities will give you a taste of what a full length class this Fall will look like. We promise you'll have a blast!

Sample classes are about 20 minutes in length and will cover some of the activities your child will do during the semester. Parents are strongly encouraged to join the samplers for children in grades 2 or younger. Parents of campers in grades 3 or older are welcome to observe the sampler, but not required. Parents are required to stay in the building while their child is attending a class.

Registration is limited to TWO sample classes per child. Please note: The description included for each sampler is the description for the class during the semester.

AGES 1-5 YEARS

You & Me: Jungle Boogie

Does your child love to get up and explore? Come boogie woogie in the jungle with us where we encourage learning through movement and multi-sensory play. Using simple props, music, and creative drama, you and your child strengthen your bond, while exploring the world of wildlife with a new jungle story each week. Each new story and lesson proposes new questions for your child, which helps them to build basic problem-solving skills. The creative play approach promotes a child’s development of language and motor skills and encourages associative play.

You & Me: On the Farm

Moo… Baa…. La La La! It’s time to travel to the farm this Fall with the help of your imaginations! Through multi-sensory play, we explore stories about the farm and the many animals who call it home. We might have a barnyard dance party, or go on a scavenger hunt to pick some apples. Using props, music, movement, and creative drama, we’ll jump into the world of a new story about the farm each class. Our creative play approach promotes a child’s development of language and motor skills and encourages associative play. This 6-week class about farm fun is the perfect kick-off to a Fall full of foliage and pumpkin patches!

Calling all movers and groovers! In this fusion class, students will explore the basics of ballet, jazz, and hip hop dancing through movement games and dramatic play. Together we will use simple props and costumes to create new characters, move through imaginary settings, and learn basic dance technique. We will also explore popular stories through dance, helping students make connections between imaginative worlds and their own movements while working on skills such as rhythm, spatial awareness, and active listening. These classes encourage creative expression and promote confidence and self-esteem.

Rumble in the Jungle
Ages 3-4

“There’s a rumble in the jungle, there’s a whisper in the trees. The animals are waking up and rustling the leaves.” Pack your binoculars and your sense of adventure as we begin our safari in search of mischievous monkeys, lazy lions, and slippery snakes. This camp will ignite your imagination using dramatic play, music, movement, and visual art, all while helping you become a better listener and problem-solver. Don’t forget the imaginary bug spray!

Drama and Music

This fusion class integrates creative drama and music. Students create their own stories, songs, and dances based on popular children’s tales. Using stories with classic themes and lessons, students make connections between imaginative worlds and their own life experiences while working on skills such as active listening and sharing. Using simple props and costumes, they create characters and bring their stories to life. Children are introduced to pattern and rhythm through beginner music lessons, instrument play, and creative movement to music. These classes encourage creative expression and promote confidence and self-esteem.

Magic Suitcase
Ages 3-4

Take a look inside our Magic Suitcase for curious clues as to where we’re off to today! Perhaps it’s a chilly trip to the Arctic or a sunny trip to the beach! Together we will explore stories that coordinate with the destination of the day through dramatic play, music, movement, and visual art. Students will use simple props and costumes to create characters and bring stories to life. Classes encourage creative expression and promote confidence and self-esteem while working on skills such as active listening, problem solving, and sharing. So pack your suitcases and join us on a magical journey!

Fairytale Magic
Ages 4-5

Fairytale favorites such as The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood are just some of the many fairytales that are waiting to be acted out! Using storytelling and dramatic play, students explore their favorite fairytales and bring them to life using basic theatre techniques such as tableaux, spoken word, and pantomime. Students gain an understanding of basic story structure while gaining confidence, building self-esteem, and working on their active listening and sharing skills. Come with us and explore a land of enchantments!

Pirates and Mermaids
Ages 4-5

Avast ye mateys! Batten down the hatches and beware of the mystical mermaids and tricky pirates that dwell in this creative drama class. Your child is invited to join us on an adventure on the high seas as we use our actor’s tools (body, voice, mind, and imagination) to explore a new story about ocean adventures each week. Whether we are hunting for buried treasure or on a quest to save a magical mermaid, students have a swashbuckling good time while also working on skills such as active listening and sharing. These creative drama classes encourage creative expression and promote confidence and self-esteem.

Hip Hop Fun
Ages 4-5

Help your young mover build confidence as they bust moves and break it down! This high-energy class uses fun and age-appropriate pop music to introduce your child to the basic elements and rhythm of hip hop dance. Popular folktales such as Anansi the Spider and contemporary twists on classics like Rapunzel help infuse storytelling into their dancing. Creative movement activities help to further cultivate spatial awareness, while floor combinations and choreography develop gross motor skills. Classes encourage creative expression and promote self-esteem while working on skills such as active listening and sharing.


GRADES K-1

All That's Hip Hop
Grades K-1

This high-energy class uses fun and age-appropriate pop music to introduce young children to the basic elements of rhythm and hip hop dance. Teaching artists draw on popular music and stories to help students use movement and choreography to tell a story. Dancers develop skills in rhythm work, body isolations, and choreography, as well as free style dancing aimed at developing their own hip hop style. Class work culminates with a final sharing at the end of the semester.

Creative Drama: Superhero Adventures
Grades K-1

In our very own “Superhero Academy,” students use their bodies, voices, minds, and imaginations to save the day by exploring super stories and creating their own superhero characters. The class uses dramatic play, visual arts, and movement to teach story structure and original character building. There is no stopping us as we embark on this great superhero adventure. An informal sharing of work will be performed for families during the final class.

Musical Theatre: Disney On Broadway
Grades K-1

In this class, students explore musical numbers from Disney’s Broadway hits such as (but not limited to) The Lion King, Mary Poppins, or Beauty and the Beast. They are introduced to fun vocal warm-ups that promote healthy singing practices as well as musical concepts of rhythm, melody, and pitch. Students also participate in creative drama activities designed to explore character and story and develop an understanding of how to convey a story through song. Students then focus these skills through the learning, staging, and rehearsing of 2-3 musical numbers which are shared in an informal setting for families during the final class.

Creative Drama: Dragontales
Grades K-1

Step into a world of adventure and meet different dragons while exploring new stories each week. Some stories that students might explore but are not limited to: Dragons Love Tacos, Puff the Magic Dragon, and My Father’s Dragon. In this creative drama class students will bring these different stories to life using their actor’s tools of the body, voice, mind, and imagination. Students learn to improvise, gain an understanding of character and environment, as well as develop personal confidence and the ability to work in a group. An informal sharing of their work will be performed for families during the final class.

Creative Drama: Magic Tree House Adventures
Grades K-1

Students use the actor’s tools of the body, voice, mind, and imagination to join Jack and Annie on their adventures in their magic tree house. Using this popular book series, students develop an understanding of character, setting, and plot to then create their own dramatic adventures, perhaps the next Jack and Annie adventure! Students work as an ensemble to bring these stories to life by using dramatic play and improvisation, movement, and visual art. An informal sharing of their work will be performed for families during the final class.


GRADES 2-3

Creative Drama: Acting Adventures
Grades 2-3

The adventure begins with students learning how to use their actor’s tools (body, voice, mind, and imagination) to develop performance skills. Through theatre games, familiar stories, acting exercises, character creation, basic stage directions, and lots of imagination, students learn the basics of acting. This introductory acting class will grow students’ confidence and skills while preparing them for future technique-based class work. An informal sharing of their work will be performed for families on the final day of the semester.

Hip Hop
Grades 2-3

Break dance, free-style, pop and lock! This high-energy class is a fun workout for all students who like to move! Students learn hip hop movement including isolation and floor work while exploring the culture and style of hip hop dance. Dancers have fun while picking up the fast-paced choreography. Class work culminates with an end of semester final sharing.

Creative Drama: Legends of the Greeks
Grades 2-3

Students use the ancient stories of Greek Mythology and characters (such as Zeus, Athena, and Hercules) to explore dramatic play and performance. Using both classic Greek stories as well as modern adaptations (like Percy Jackson) students gain a better understanding of story structure and given circumstances (the who, what, where, and when of a story), as well as character motivation. Students apply these skills towards the creation of their very own scenes and apply basic performance skills to the staging and rehearsal of these scenes. An informal sharing of their work will be performed for families on the final day of the semester.

Creative Drama: Adventures with Percy Jackson
Grades 2-3

Join Percy, Annabel, and the other Demigods on a quest to save the world from Kronos! Using the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan as a springboard, students create their own characters and develop short scenes about the battles between the Titans and Demigods of Greek Mythology. Students learn to use actor’s skills (character, relationship, objective, and where) as they explore Greek Mythology and create their own scenes. Who knows? You might have your very own Lightning Thief! An informal sharing of their created scene-work will be performed for families on the final day of the semester.

Creative Drama: Create a Character
Grades 2-3

In this foundational drama class, students are encouraged to make physical and vocal choices that connect to the characters they are portraying as they create original character biographies. A variety of techniques such as improvisation, creative movement, and storytelling are explored to encourage young actors to make unique acting choices using simple scripted material. An informal sharing of activities and/or short scripted work will be performed for families on the final day of the semester.


GRADES 4-5

FUNdamentals of Musical Theatre
Grades 4-5

This class marks the beginning of the Musical Theatre track at Imagination Stage! This process-based class combines two of the three disciplines that make up the genre of Musical Theatre: acting and singing. Technique classes hone skills that are vital to performing on stage. In FUNdamentals of Musical Theatre, students learn to create believable characters for the stage and develop singing skills. Students participate in fun acting activities that focus on realistic actions and reactions. Students build basic vocal technique by developing healthy singing practices, warm-up routines, and musicianship skills. Through games and exercises, students build a strong and caring ensemble with their fellow classmates in order to promote an environment of trust where they can effectively explore, make big choices, and take risks! At the end of the semester, students share two to four musical theatre selections from popular Broadway musicals chosen for their focus on story and character. Their work on these song selections utilizes the skills they have been learning throughout the semester.

FUNdamentals of Acting
Grades 4-5

This class marks the beginning of the Acting Technique Track at Imagination Stage! Acting technique classes hone skills that are vital to performing on stage. In FUNdamentals of Acting, students focus on creating sustainable and believable characters and truthful actions for the stage. Students participate in a variety of fun exercises which work on physical control, human behavior observations, and realistic actions and reactions. Through games and activities, students build a strong and caring ensemble with their fellow classmates in order to promote an environment of trust where they can effectively explore, make big choices, and take risks! Students rehearse and perform short scenes, utilizing the skills they have been learning throughout the semester.

Improv: Theatre Games
Grades 4-5
12:15 p.m. - 12:35 p.m.

Improvisation is the art of acting without a script. Through a variety of fun activities and games recognizable from shows such as Whose Line is it Anyway?, students learn to be spontaneous and adaptable working as a part of an ensemble. Students explore short-form improvisation scenarios and games with the goal of sustaining a character and scene in theatrically exciting ways. Class work culminates in an informal sharing of their work for families on the last day of class.
