The Pencil Is Mightier
May 31 (preview performance) at 7:00 p.m. JUNE 1-2 at 7:30 p.m. JUNE 3 at 3:00 p.m. Written by Amanda Zeitler Conceived and Performed by the Speak Out on Stage Ensemble Directed by Kirsten Grorud Music and Lyrics Composed and Directed by Jonathan Kirby When Jenny, an enthusiastic artist, and her 4 older sisters move into a new housing complex, she is less than thrilled; the twins are always fighting, Evelyn won’t shut up about Shakespeare, and Astrid can’t stop bossing everyone around. To top it all off, she discovers that their neighborhood is also home to four bullies who think that art is weird. The solution to Jenny’s problems may lie in a magical notebook and pencil which opens a portal to Reverie, a fantastical alternative dimension, ruled over by the wish-granting Queen Nebulous. But Jenny soon discovers that Reverie is not all it seems and Nebulous is no better than the bullies at home. When her siblings are captured, Jenny must find the strength within herself to stand up to her bullies and save her family with the power of the magical pencil. Please note, the May 31 showing is a preview performance during the students' last technical rehearsal.
