9631 Intro to Shakespeare | Improvisation
Rising Grades 6-8
June 26-30
9:00-4:00
1 week
Imagination Stage
$550
In the mornings, students gain a basic understanding of who Shakespeare was and his contributions to the theatre world. Throughout the week, students explore the diverse characters of his plays, the heightened story moments, and learn how Shakespeare used language to tell the stories we still perform today. Acting exercises and character exploration come together as student performers take selected scenes from the page and onto the stage.
Afternoons are spent exploring a style of acting that encourages spontaneous character and conflict choices. Campers work with theatre games and short-form scenes, addressing important theatre skills such as active listening, clarity of choices and intent, confidence, timing, and teamwork to develop intuitive improv comedy performers.
Campers provide their own nut-free lunch and snacks. Week-long after-care is available (4:00-6:00 p.m.).
