In this intensive, one-week program, held in the state-of-the-art studios at American University’s Katzen Arts Center, performers take a deep dive into musicals that center dance in the storytelling such as Chicago, Memphis, A Chorus Line, Fosse, and MJ: The Musical. Students develop musical theatre and jazz dance technique, build strength and flexibility, and work on necessary skills including turns, footwork, and balance. Vocal technique is also developed, focusing on healthy warm up practices, vocal placement, and breath control. The week culminates in a sharing of dynamic choreography that celebrates the dance musical as a beautiful form of storyline.
