In the mornings, campers dive into the hilarious world of slapstick, clowning, and comedia while expanding their acting technique through physicality control, characterization, and interplay with their fellow actors. We also develop an understanding of comedic timing and story structure. And of course, no clowning camp experience would be complete without learning how to safely smack someone with a giant crayon.
In the afternoon, campers get creative as they collaborate with each other and a teaching artist to develop an original theatrical piece that may include short scenes, monologues, or ensemble-style movement surrounding a theme that is important to the group. Campers gain insight into the play creation process using writing prompts and up-on-your feet exercises. No experience required, just a willingness to create.
Campers provide their own nut-free lunch and snacks. Week-long after-care is available (4:00-6:00 p.m.).
