Acting for the Camera takes a look at the day-to-day of making a film, learning the ins and outs of a production day as well as the gear and various people that actors may find when stepping onto set. Students engage in foundational acting exercises to grow their character-building and scene-work skills while obtaining a relaxed, natural presence in front of the camera. They also explore the industry’s vocabulary necessary for film acting. Using short scripts and professional camera equipment, students are introduced to a variety of exciting and challenging film-specific needs, such as shooting scenes out of order (sequencing), blocking (consistency and hitting your mark), and film shots (adjusting for a close-up shot versus a long shot). This class culminates in a screening or live film work of short scenes and activities demonstrating the skills they have been learning throughout the class.
