In this class, students work on two of the disciplines that make up musical theater: singing and dancing! Students explore the world of Broadway using age-appropriate vocal and dance techniques and exercises. Vocal work includes appropriate breathing, projection, and singing on pitch. The movement portion of the class covers the basic technique of Broadway-jazz dance including the box step, grapevine, pivot, jazz hands, and turns. Students work towards singing and dancing at the same time, while performing and portraying the story and character through body language and facial expression. The last day of class culminates in an informal sharing of two to three musical theater songs for family and friends. Classroom sharings offer an insightful look into the process of refining foundational skills over the 14-week semester, providing a glimpse into the classroom experience at Imagination Stage.
