Improvisers explore advanced character creation, storytelling, and the nature of ensemble work, all while honing a rapier-like wit. Students explore advanced improv techniques, including long-form improv, scene work, and character development while also developing skills in active listening, spontaneity, and creativity. Skills are applied to various short and long form improv formats, including the Harold (a challenging 10-20 minute theatre piece improvised from a one-word audience suggestion)! These challenging formats are made possible through a supportive and fun environment where students can take creative risks, embrace their spontaneity, and refine their performance skills.
Each year, the Teen Improv Troupe ends with a performance alongside other Improvisation groups from the Washington, DC comedy community (previous collaborating troupes include Washington Improv Theatre and American University). No audition is necessary, but previous classroom experience in acting or improv is recommended. Interested students can email Nikki Kaplan at nkaplan@imaginationstage.org for more information.
