On a faraway island, hidden in the Cave of Wonder, there lies a mystical treasure trunk. Stories, magic, and adventures await to be uncovered as each day students pull an enchanted item from the magical trunk. It may be the lost scepter of the mermaid queen, or an ancient storybook from another land. Whatever lies within this enchanted trunk ignites creativity and imagination! Students bring a treasure trove of mystical items to life using drama, music, movement, and visual arts. Camp activities support healthy self-expression, build an arts vocabulary, and encourage problem-solving skills as students embody exciting new characters and settings.
A typical day at camp begins with a welcome and warm up, followed by themed free-play stations, a creative drama activity, a snack and movement break (snack is brought from home), visual art, and an exploratory musical moment before heading to lunch and recess. The afternoon provides more time to engage in themed play stations, a drama or music workshop, an interactive story activity, and a final group closing featuring silly songs, skits, and camper spotlights. On the last day, campers show off their newly sharpened theatre arts skills in an informal sharing for friends and family.
Campers provide their own nut-free lunch and snacks.
Creative Drama: Treasure Trunk Theatre is held off site at our neighborhood partner: The Primrose School of Downtown Bethesda, located one block from Imagination Stage (8101 Glenbrook Rd, Bethesda).
After-care is available from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Imagination Stage.
