In the first part of their day, campers engage in the process of creating a “set” for a stand-up comedy routine. From writing jokes and sketches to learning how to “work” an audience, campers explore the importance of point of view, stage presence, body language, and connecting with an audience while further developing their own unique sense of humor. Through a combination of improvisation exercises and structured writing activities, students create their very own stand-up comedy sets.
In the afternoon, campers explore comedy through a different lens! Campers dive into the hilarious world of slapstick, clowning, and comedia while expanding their acting technique through physicality control, characterization, and interplay with their fellow actors. Campers work to develop an understanding of comedic timing and story structure. By the end of the week, campers have a toolkit of comedy skills guaranteed to bring down the house!
Campers provide their own nut-free lunch and snacks. Week-long after-care is available (4:00-6:00 p.m.).
