Musical Theatre: Voice and Dance

10 weeks
Wednesdays, 9/26-12/12
Grades 7-9
Class #5784

In this class, performers are given the opportunity to focus on two of the three musical theatre disciplines: singing and dance. These skills are integrated with a focus on sustaining energy throughout and maintaining their characters through dance. Dance technique focuses on Broadway-jazz style, developing flexibility, coordination, proper alignment and footwork, and strong and clean extension of the arms and legs. Singing work addresses vocal placement and breathing while challenging students to stretch the range of their voices. These techniques are then applied to rehearsal and performance of two or three musical numbers to be shared in the classroom on the final day of the semester.
